Backpacking the Two Moors Way and elsewhereFirst trip in the COG backpacking calender is Roy's weekend (Friday 7th to Sunday 9th April) around the Elan Valley. I haven't yet got full details from Roy although it's likely that we'll be at the Rhayader camp site on Friday night with a wild camp on the Saturday. Backpacking is probably the ideal way to experience this stunning area. This weekend can also be used as a warm-up exercise for the BIG backpacking trip of the year As you probably know by now, this year's May Day weekend follows directly on from Easter. This being so, what with all the bank holidays and weekends, by booking 6 days off work you can get a spread of 13 days' worth of glorious backpacking. Ideally then, the trip would include Thursday the 20th April right up to Tuesday the 2nd May. If your excitement levels are rocketing at the very thought contact me AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! There is a deadline - the 8th April - and if there aren't enough people interested then it's off. The plan is to walk from the north Devon coast down through Exmoor and Dartmoor, with a bit of wild camping, probably along much of the "Two Moors Way". Unfortunately, we'll probably be a day or two short to complete this walk unless we're all really keen. There's also the possibility of joining up with the sensible people's May Day weekend at Steps Bridge hostel. If you think you'll be able to do part of the trip only, it's still worth making enquiries because we can try to arrange something to accommodate everyone. We could even go to another part of the country if that's the general whim. The possible ramifications are mind boggling, hence the need to contact me about it a.s.a.p. If the thought of 13 days pure enjoyment sounds too much for you, then there's always the later, more civilised backpacking trip over Whitsun weekend, somewhere in the Cotswolds. Suffice it to say that we will never be too far from a pub. Again, please contact me a.s.a.p. Finally, August bank holiday will most probably also have a backpacking option. If you have any ideas for destinations please let me know - a.s.a.p. |
